IMPORTANT REGULATORY UPDATE ADDED – see the attachment below.
Ukrainian Association of Investment Business hosted the webinar «Collective Investment Institutions as a financial mechanism for the rebuilding of Ukraine» on 1 November 2022. This was our first webinar specifically targeted at potential and prospective foreign investors interested in Ukraine, in particular in rebuilding its infrastructure, and modernising and boosting its economy in the aftermath of the illegal and destructive russian aggression, invasion and occupation of parts of the country.
Collective Investment Institutions (CIIs) are a local investment fund brand operating under the respective Law of Ukraine first adopted in 2001 (recast in 2012, as amended). CIIs and could serve as one of the key financial mechanisms for the rebuilding of Ukraine and financing the renewal and upgrading of its economy.
The webinar focused on various topics and aspects of investing into Ukraine via CIIs, including the current macroeconomic situation in Ukraine, its recent developments during wartime, and prospects for different economic sectors. We talked about what CIIs exactly are, how they correspond to the EU fund framework, and how they operate under the Ukrainian law; what ways for investor control over the funds activities are. Also, the broader legal regulation of investments in Ukraine was discussed as well as the specific taxation of foreign investments, in particular in via CIIs.
A few investment projects also were presented by two UAIB member asset managers, which provided a glimpse at the opportunities offered by the Ukrainian market now.
Despite all the risks and challenges during this wartime, the webinar was a success, thanks to the determination and professionalism of our great speakers: an MP and First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy (Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine) Yaroslav Zhelezniak, Head of the Macroeconomic Research Department of the ICU Group Vitaliy Vavryshchuk, Director and Head of local asset management at ICU group, UAIB Board Member Grigoriy Ovcharenko, Senior Lawyer and Adviser in investment projects implementation at AMC B-L-R LLC Borys Bidiy, Managing Partner at Crowe Mikhailenko Dmitriy Mikhailenko, and Olha Horitska of AMC Ready-Invest LLC.
The event was moderated by UAIB Director of International Relations & Senior Analyst Anastasia Gavrilyuk.
